Who IsTech-Tim
As you may have determined by now, my name is Tim. I am a self proclaimed techie that has always had an interest in the growing technology of the computer world. I began my journey as a young teen, and soon found that problem solving was what I excelled in, and that one day I would join the IT Industry.
When I was just a kid, I found myself taking electronics apart, but never seemed to be able to put them back together. At first it got me in more trouble than anything. But soon, and I’m not sure how, I was fixing broken electronics lying around the house that were collecting dust.
Before I knew it, when my Dad was having issues with his electronics, he would have me troubleshoot the issue, and find the solution. While I didn’t always have the answer, I sure found that when it came to troubleshooting, if I worked at it long enough, I could figure it out sooner or later.
My teen years were a little rough, but during that time I found that keeping busy with hobbies kept me out of trouble. I met a friend on my way home from school one day, and soon found out we had similar interests. He was into electronics, but of a different nature that I was used too. (Computers)
The more I hung around him, the more I grew and interest for computers too. He would teach me what he knew about them, like electronics, I would figure out a way to break them. That was back when typing “del *.*” was a self destruction tool. Well I guess it still can be if you don’t know.
I worked with DOS every day until soon I was able to maneuver around enough to figure out what I was doing. Never did I realize what would soon transpire. Now DOS was just a stepping stone into the computer world, which soon moved to the ever changing Windows Operating System.
I soon found myself learning the Software as well as the Hardware aspects of computers. As I advanced, I was more and more determined to learn everything I could. I was a teen that was able to resolve issues that most adults couldn’t fix themselves. Of course, back then, there weren’t millions of computers in American homes.
I went through stages, and between struggling to be a teenager, and trying to become a musician, which I can say that today I still have that dream in my heart. I didn’t dedicate all my time to computer problem solving. But when someone had a problem, I was there to help.
To make a long story short, I was finally convinced by my now wonderful wife, that if that’s what I really love to do, why not do it for a living. I just wish she would of said that about my musician career, because let’s face it, it pays a lot better.
I went to school, and have to say, it was a bit of a train wreck. Not for me, I was motivated as could be, but the problem was the Vocational School did not share the same characteristics as I. My first teacher was fired within the first few months of classes, and the second teacher felt like he had to rush to finish the job the first one lacked in. I ended up with a few Certifications, so I can say that helped me get on my way. I did learn a lot, but nothing like in the real world.
As far as fundamentals, I continued, and still continue to always learn. But when the time came to go out into the real world, I had to learn quick and think fast, and had to use my natural troubleshooting abilities, and all that I learned throughout the years to make it where I am today.
I got in the IT Business quick, and found all the resources I could cram into my head within the next year to learn all I could about the IT World. I never stopped learning because one, I wasn’t afraid to learn, and two when I didn’t know I wasn’t afraid to say I didn’t know, then would study it to get up to speed.
Research was a passion of mine. If I didn’t know about something, and I mean anything, I would spend hours researching it, and then used the resources of the Internet to help me learn more about it. I am a firm believer that learning in a working environment is the best way to learn. Books are great for getting the fundamentals down, but putting the fingers to work is the real way to learn it.
I have been in IT now for nearly four years, and have learned so much, not only on my own, but from peers, friends, and other acquaintances. I created this site to teach others to become self sufficient kind of like I have become today, and show them that whether you know a little about computers, or have been in it twenty years, the computer world is an ever changing industry, and the learning possibility is endless.
While I can’t teach you everything, (Cause I never claim to be the smartest IT Geek) I am going to focus on teaching others the basics so they can work to becoming a “Do it yourself” troubleshooting machine, and soon the world may be educated enough to know, if you don’t know anything about computers, you really should learn before getting to involved in them. And if you don’t want to know anything about computers, then you shouldn’t own one, and should invest in a Speak and Spell. Ha
I hope you learn something from this site, and soon you have the skills to work on those basic problems, are able to self maintain your computer for optimal performance, and gain a knowledge that everyone in the world should soon obtain. Because let’s face it, computers are the wave of the future.
Thanks for checking it out, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
